Ankeny is part of the larger Des Moines metropolitan area and pulls much of its labor from this pool. In addition, Ankeny’s location in the north section of the metropolitan area, our proximity to other large labor markets such as Ames, Marshalltown and Nevada, and our highway and interstate accessibility, allows us to pull workforce from other diverse markets.

The State of Iowa summarizes available labor through Laborshed Studies. These studies reflect the area with which a particular community draws its labor force. Ankeny recently completed its 2005 Laborshed Study, detailing the availability and willingness of current and prospective employees to change employment within the workforce, underemployment, current and desired occupations, wages, hours worked, and distance willing to commute.
